What Is Omega 3?

Omega 3 is the brand name for a group of Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids, which are vital to our bodies.

Why Is It So Important?

The Omega 3 Fatty Acids are present in each and everyone of our body's cells, and especially in the membrane. They are responsible for the cell's ability to communicate with the other cells in all areas of the body. In addition, The Human Brain, which is composed of 60% fatty tissues, a third of which are Omega 3, cannot function properly without the right amount of Omega 3.

Does My Body Manufacture Omega 3?

Absolutely not! Despite the high importance of Omega 3 Fatty Acids in our bodies, our bodies cannot manufacture them, nor can it produce them from other materials that are present in our bodies. We must import those acids into our bodies by the balanced diet, which is unfortunately not present in the western world for the last 200 years.

Which Types Of Food Contain Omega 3?

Omega 3 can mostly be found in marine fish that swim in cold waters, although sometimes it can also be derived from plants such as Sea Weed and Flax Seeds. But, our bodies cannot properly handle the short-chained fatty acids of the plants, so we mostly use the long-chained ones derived form fish – EPA and DHA.

In most places, Omega 3 is still defined as a food supplement, although its uses are becoming more and more medical everyday. In Europe, it is defined as a medicine when the concentration is higher than 85%.

Can Omega 3 Cure Or Prevent Diseases?

The American Federal Drugs Association (FDA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) recommend a dosage of 1 to 1.5 grams (0.04 to 0.05 ounces) a day for a healthy person. It is important to mention that both of these authorities recommend you get a doctors permission before consuming more than 3 grams ( 0.1 Ounces) a day.
